The night before Christmas Eve, I went to a cool ass underground rave. Personally, I love EDM music. It all started in elementary school when my class crush shared the same love for music as me. During recess in fourth grade, Christian and I would listen to Skrillex on YouTube and fantasized about making electronica. The urge to connect and force myself into the interest of dubstep led me down a rabbit hole of other EDM artists such as Knife Party, Deadmau5, and Subtronics.
We parked near a burger joint and proceeded to follow the sound of music. On our way of our journey, we had to stumble down a hill which revealed the tunnels.
“Follow the glow sticks!”
On our way through the tunnels, there was a table with an assortment of free zines! From poetry to philosophy to magic, I was instantly charmed by the creativity and free information. With my new zine in my pocket, we continued to follow the path.
It was rainy that day so it was an obstacle course of trying not to step in a puddle and get soggy socks. Funnily enough, I heard someone say, “man… why did I wear crocs.” Big mistake buddy.
Following on, the sparkling dark visual atmosphere and bumping bass dazzled my senses. The tags of graffiti artists engulfed the walls in color.
I felt so incredibly happy dancing with like minded individuals. Everyone was all fitted up and the majority of them had huge smiles on their faces. After dancing for about 20 minutes, I had to go to the restroom. Me and my friend headed out of the tunnel. Thank god we left when we did because after using the restroom at the nearest Whataburger, it started pouring down. Hard.
We ended the night at one of my really good friend Antonio’s house where they had bottles of whiskey, cold beer, and karaoke. I sang my heart out to Sic by Slipknot and was very excited on how cool my screams sounded miked up. What a perfect ending to a perfect night.
